Newcastle Gathering

TCF NSW held a one day workshop in Newcastle on Saturday 8th March 2025.

Held at the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club with a group of around 30 parents, siblings and grandparents from the Central Coast, Hunter Valley and Northern Tablelands. The keynote speaker for the day was Mr Chris Hall AM, CEO of Grief Australia. His many years of experience were evident in his thoughtful and compassionate delivery of what is a very challenging issue, the loss of a child, sibling or for some a grandchild.

WIth a group of people whose grief journey in some cases was only weeks or months old, so still very early and raw... Chris was able to impart many words of wisdom, making all in the room feel they were not alone. His thoughts on how the attitude and teachings on grief have changed over time enabled many to openly talk about some of their feelings and experiences, and to demonstrate that there is no one way to grieve, that we all react differently, that there is no right way or wrong way.

Many expressed that they found the going tough over the course of the day, but all reflected it was definitely worthwhile, and were very appreciative of the dedication and commitment that showed in Chris's presentation on the day.

Following on from Chris Hall, the group were treated to a presentation by Carolyn Salter, including readings of her poetry, written over the years as part of here grief journey. Carolyn and her husband David lost their son in an aircraft accident many years ago. Carolyn's words resonated with the group and really consolidated a lot of what was presented and discussed in Chris's earlier presentation.

Our heartfelt thanks to both Chris Hall and Carolyn Salter for making the time to join us in Newcastle on what was a very memorable gathering.
